Eternity is a mere moment, just long enough for a joke
Herman Hesse
This is a party like no other. Come join us in ‘The Magic Theatre’ and allow yourself to be immersed in a world inspired by that of the Steppenwolf – a shadowy underworld where your path around the party will be dictated by the choices you make. Lose yourself. Dance. Drink. Discover. An experiential interpretation of Herman Hesse’s novel ‘Steppenwolf.’ This performance invites you on a journey of self–discovery and to question what it means to be an individual in a society more and more defined by the movement of the crowd. All Hell Lay Beneath was originally produced as part of the Absolut Dublin Fringe Festival 2012. With a cast and crew of over forty people, Dizzyingly ambitious… wonderfully inventive and richly immersive… Heavenly

the piece was created over a number of months and was the first large-scale production produced solely by Sugarglass Theatre. It was created by the company with a core team of performers and collaborations with musicians, illusionists and chefs. All Hell Lay Beneath was one of the top 3 ‘Fringe Highlights’ in the Irish Times and was nominated for the ‘Best Off-Site Production’ and ‘Spirit of the Fringe Awards’ as part of Absolut Dublin Fringe Festival. Sugarglass are currently exploring options for future iterations of the production.

Cassidys Bar

Our home away from home. Macker, Ross, Cliff, Keeva, Roisin, Leah. Thank you for making this show possible. Also thanks for the pizzas, pints, teas, coffees and the occasional freddo bar. We hope we haven’t intruded too much on what is undoubtedly the most welcoming pub in Dublin.

DU Players

Thanks for bringing us together as a company and for the space then and now to learn, try and fail. In particular to the 2012/2013 committee for being so very understanding over the past few weeks with your time, facilities and equipment.

Absolut Fringe

To Roise, Marcus, Emma and all the guys at Absolut Fringe, thanks for facilitating this process through all the ups and downs. We hope you like it.

From The Press

‘Marc Atkinson’s loose retelling of Herman Hesse’s Steppenwolf as a party of blissful discoveries, surreal interactions and a sobering reminder of the cost of decadence. Heavenly.’

‘Biggest surprise: Going along to a Fringe show being put on by a company of recent graduates in the basement of a bar with more than a little scepticism, and being rewarded with an immersive, theatrical experience that was as ambitious as it was inventive – take a bow Sugarglass Theatre and All Hell Lay Beneath.’
